Cheers to St. Patrick’s Day!

first of all, thanks for all the congrats and kind words about my blog making it into the top 10 blogs for wives! i truly appreciate it and for everyone who reads my ramblings (and deals with the lack of capitalization) and still wants to be my friend. i am grateful.

top o’ the morning/afternoon/whenever you’re reading this to ya! happy st. patrick’s day to you! i’m part german, part dutch and a lot irish so i’m celebrating today by talking in an irish accent and dotting all my “i’s” on paper with a shamrock. i’m almost certain that’s how they do it in ireland.

we celebrated this weekend because our friend jenn was visiting us from ABQ (i refuse to look up how to spell that word)! we first ventured to multnomah falls to get our green on. who knew there were about 293 different shades of green??! i did not before moving to oregon!

IMG_5817one of my husband and me because you know that we love taking pictures together-particularly when we are basically matching. i’m pretending we are in ireland here.

relationship blog chelsea and ryan multnomah fallswe met up with some fabulous friends to watch some irish dancers totally and completely rock the house. part of me wishes i was forced to do this as a child (in fairness, i think only 1-2 girls were being forced) because it was awesome. mostly i’d be in it for the wig.

relationship blog irish dancers 1then our generous friends bought us irish car bombs (guinness beer and a shot of bailey’s irish cream) and you have to drop the bailey’s in fast and then chug otherwise it curdles. mine totally curdled because i can’t drink things fast and i dumped it all over my face because i’m so graceful.

relationship blog the gang st patricks daysometimes my husband and i are afraid we are going to get kicked out of portland because we don’t ride bikes and we don’t like beer…except guinness. it’s basically a milkshake. and they were handing out guinness jewelry and you know i like my jewels.

relationship blog chelsea avery and ryansee that green shirt i’m wearing? it’s actually a workout top because i embarrassingly don’t own anything else green. this also caused me to do random lunges throughout the day because i’m conditioned to do so while in this top.

our friend carissa had the genius idea to check out ‘voicebox‘ it’s a karaoke bar but you can rent out individual rooms so only your closest friends will hear your “voice of an angel” singing. we loved it.

here is is our 8 measure musical break (read: dance break) while jenn and i sing to no doubt’s “i’m just a girl.” i have a whole new respect for artists that can jump around and still carry a tune because multiple times i felt like i needed my inhaler.

relationship blogs chelsea and jen just a girla very heartfelt song being sung (i’m guessing it was either tom petty or madonna).

relationship blog karokeit was an excellent st. patty’s weekend celebration! my husband and i were talking yesterday about how sometimes we forget we are in our mid-20’s and are allowed to go out and act like it.

we sometimes take ourselves too seriously because we are running a business together and work A LOT. it’s important to still have fun, see friends and just let loose. this conversation was spoken in a very quite, hoarse voice and while i was guzzling water because apparently i cannot handle 3 drinks anymore? i’m getting old.

with that, here is an old irish blessing that i wish for you on this day (and every day)

irish blessing may love and lightthe new wifestyle: “may love and laughter light your days and warm your heart and home.”

questions:
1) are you of irish decent?
2) did you/are you doing anything to celebrate st. patrick’s day?
3) karaoke? are you in or out and what are you singing?

    Chelsea, i love your exhuberance!
    1. I am of French/Irish descent
    2. I went to visit with a good friend and because I was not wearing green she pinched me !
    3. I LOVE Karaoke! It’s how Jeremy and I met and normally we have a weekly dose of it on Monday night, but as it is St. Patrick’s Day and thus bars and crowds we are staying in and cooking dinner together. Maybe we will watch an Irish movie. Pretty excited about a very laid-back night 🙂

    1) Nope, except on this fine holiday 🙂
    2) Ironically I had thought of this nice green outfit all planned. Then when I got up and got dressed for work I wore something else that did not have a stitch of green on it. Boo me.
    3) I do lots of radio Karoke while stuck in rush hour traffic.
