HUGE, EXCITING, NORTHWEST NEWS! (no, i’m not pregnant)

it’s official…

WE HAVE DECIDED TO MOVE BACK TO PORTLAND, OREGON!

i have had much unrest lately, especially when it comes to not having a home base. while i still want to eventually end up back in Colorado when we start having kids, that won’t be for a few years so why not go back to that quirky city we love and miss dearly (and the people within it).

portland put a bird cookie

i am mentally preparing for the long, dreary Portland winter (actually this picture was taken in May…it really is rainy/cloudy/dreary for about 8 months)

but the summers are outrageous and lovely and we are so excited to go back!

we are also bringing a new friend with us! her name is Sugarbelle (or Shuga-shuug) and she is a rescue puppy from Texas. she was less than a day away from being put down…look at this sweet, scared puppy!

my in-laws fostered then adopted her. over the summer this dang dog crawled into our hearts while we were in Houston.

now she is happy and crazy and always tries to lick frogs (and i defend her for doing so because she is a street dog people! she had to eat frogs to survive). when we facetime with my in-laws and Sugar is in the room, she recognizes my voice and runs to the front door. yeah. so what if i cried over that?! we need each other.

she will also help to satisfy my husband’s need for taking care of something right now, which will ultimately help our relationship.

marriage blog upside down dog ryan avery chelsea avery sugarwe have a break in the AveryTour over christmas, so we return to Texas on December 21, pack up, celebrate christmas with lots of food and love and then drive out on December 28 for 2,286 miles! it sorta feels like deja vu.

i was sort of looking forward to just sitting for that entire week and as overwhelmed as i am with the fact that we have no place to actually live yet, i feel a deeper peace knowing i will soon get a space of my very own again. yay!

the summer was wonderful to be able to get to know my in-laws much better and they are such fun, loving and kind people! love “y’all” and i feel so thankful that i not only married an amazing man but get to call these wonderful people my family too!

IMG_7316i am excited to see the new chapter that we continue to create together in Portland. it’s a city that feels like ours, we have wonderful friends there and so many delicious brunch places that i’ve already started making a list of the places i want to go once we get back there.

i was initially afraid of feeling like we’d be moving backwards instead of forward but as long as you make a commitment to continue growing, evolving and trying new things…you can’t go backwards. bring it on Portland.

the new wifestyle: having solid ground to call your own is vital to help maintain your own sanity as well as the healthiness of your relationship.

questions:
1) where is the shortest place you’ve moved to/from? (Houston takes the cake for me…June-December)
2) tell me about any pets you have and how much you love them!
3) if you are reading this and you live in Portland…where should we go get drinks when we move back!?

ps. i’m actually only moving back to Portland because they still have my flavor of deodorant “old spice arctic force.” i am not kidding when i say i’ve been to 12 different states trying to find this kind and NONE had them except when we went back through Portland. that sealed the deal on the spot. yes, i really use men’s deodorant. and so does Beki!

    1) where is the shortest place you’ve moved to/from? (Houston takes the cake for me…June-December)
If you don’t count “school years”, then I guess 1 calendar year. …but there were several years in a row where I moved every year, after just 1 calendar year. I thought that’s what people did when they rented!

    2) tell me about any pets you have and how much you love them!
My folks bought a bichon frise to “replace me” when I went to college, but the dog was “mine” whenever I was home visiting. What a great/crazy dog!

    3) if you are reading this and you live in Portland…where should we go get drinks when we move back!?
N/A, but I’m so excited for you! Congrats on your decision!

    questions:
    1) from November to April. 🙁 I’m hoping to get back home sooner than April. It’s hard to own a house you haven’t lived in yet! When you get back to Texas make sure you tell us what you think of the elusive gift!

    2) cells is a puppy of my mom’s that miss Aiden named after Cinderella. Howard goose. Soni princess cat. Jayaruah the pretty pretty kittie Kittie (she is named after a Lil Wayne reference. My bro wants another cat named the notorious c.a.t… the cats are his and those are the long forms of thier names) he also has Bruce and Lee geckos. And had Vin and diesel fish. Plus jean and Claude crabs. We have also had Mr turtle and voodoo daddy turtles. All animals have distinct personalities which I didn’t quite realize till Bobby took so many in.

    3) I’m glad you have such supportive loving people in your corner. It’s nice to have two sets of parents as an adult who want nothing more than your success and happiness. I love my parents but I needed Nick’s for my family to be truly complete.

ohhh i forgot you sent us a gift but i do know it arrived-yay! so kind of you 🙂 crossing my fingers for you that you get back sooner than april too Heather! i think your family wins for having the funniest and most creative pet names-hilarious and also sounds like you’ve got quite the pet menagerie over there-fun! we also feel lucky to have supportive family in our corner too-makes a world of difference and glad you have that too!

Unfortunately, aiden is allergic to everything. So all the animals live at nini’s. But in australia nicks parents have two dogs, one named jeremy the other arnold. Aiden calls them collectively “jarnold.” She cries because she misses the arnold puppy and he doesnt make her sneeze too much.

awww i’m sorry she’s missing arnold puppy but glad she isn’t too sneezy around him!

    1) While spending 2 1/2 years in Greeley, Colorado, we once moved into a one bedroom house/apartment worked on bringing electric up to code and moved out before the week was up into a 3rd floor 2 bedroom apartment. Luckily we didn’t move any belongings. I was a poor college student and my wife was expecting our first child. Crazy times.
    2) 2 bogs…Dante Culpuppy (previous owner loved MN Vikings–QB Dante Culpepper at the time) and Declin — for Declin Diddly-eye from the movie Leap Year. They can keep you warm at night if allowed on your bed and take you on cold morning walks…if you don’t just put them out in a fenced back yard.
    3) Not from Portland…don’t drink…but Gramma makes some awesome hot chocolate!

**My daughter, 20 and leaving on a church mission Dec.4, for Fort Collins, Colorado Mission loves your deoderant too. I thought she was weird. Now I know better! Best of luck on your way back to Portland!

      November 20, 2013 at 7:11 am

wow i think you win for the shortest time living a place Richard-less than a week! “Culpuppy” is pretty stinkin’ cute even though i’m not a football fan! i don’t think we will have a backyard quite yet so i am already preparing for this cold (and very rainy) morning/afternoon/nighttime walks! hot chocolate is always a win-particularly this time of year! oh fun that your daughter will be venturing to Ft Collins-great place and SO funny that she uses the same deodorant. my dad thought it was weird at first too but probably because i stole his when i was 15 🙂

    1) The shortest place I lived was with my ex-husband Dave in a temporary apartment. We moved due to my job when he left the Air Force. I think we were there a month with brand new baby Heather.
    2) Heather covered the pets in my house. Pre-Pre is really my cat although ‘officially’ she is Bobby’s. The puppy is mine. Usually she is calls Beans (I assume because Cella goes with jelly beans – but who knows). We have had a No Saint Nicholas (Nicky Doodles), Jean Lue (a sheltie named after a bald guy), just to name a few.
    3) Any place with good friends – maybe someone’s house! I am glad you all made a decision to go back to a place you love!
