Flirtatious Men, Athletic Fashion Shows and Friends!

last night i got together with my friend alison who works downtown so i walked to meet her and bum a ride with her to a fashion show and i saw this lovely sight at twilight. i am so glad portland keeps its twinkly lights on trees all year-makes the dreariness more bearable.
wife blog twilight

this was totally my kind of fashion show-it was at Fit Right NW and Brooks Running Co is releasing a new line of clothing!Β that’s totally my kind of fashion show-comfy clothes and running shoes instead of high heels. they also had FREE wine/beer/nibbles so it was pretty great.

ryan vail fit rightthis is also the place where i bought my first pair of running shoes after alison finally convinced me i was actually capable of running-even if i was i strong advocate against it. 2 years ago i ran my first 5k and didn’t die.

then they called up “ryan!” and for a second my heart skipped a beat that maybe my husband would turn the corner but no-he’s still in colorado (organizing breaking a world record). instead, this ryan came up…ryan vail and he is super impressive. he ran aΒ marathon (26.2 miles) in 2 HOURS AND 11 MINUTES. that is insane. according to his blog, he was the 1st US finisher at the 2013 ING NYC Marathon and lives right here in portland.

i am sure he’s triple-lapping me out on the water front while i am getting my 3 miles in at a 10 minute pace.

wife blog running famous guythen raffle time happened and THEY ACTUALLY CALLED MY NUMBER. this never happens. i literally shrieked out loud. $25 bucks towards a new pair of running shoes (because i still have the same pair i bought 2 years ago)-thanks Fit Right NW! winning something at random brings more happiness than i anticipated.

wife blog chelsea avery winningBrooks has these cool new jackets that do neat things-like show a different pattern when you take a photo with the flash on (or cars are about to hit you so they see you). here’s the before and after flash comparison. it was pretty neat.

wife blog jacket flash comparisonalison and i must have been emitting some sort of sexy pheromone last. i tried on the above jacket and then 3 minutes after i took it off some strange man came up to me and said “ya know…that jacket looked really nice on you-like really nice.” and i said “oh thaaaanks!” and then got really awkward and backed away slowly. you sneaky old man with ulterior motives, i’m happily taken-thank you. i can assure you that no one ever flirts with me or hits on me, like ever so i am really unsure how to maneuver in these situations.

as we were leaving, a different older man straight up asked alison out and it was awkward when she also said she was happily taken. hot stuff.

to celebrate our sexiness, we went and got dinner (and nice waitress-if you are reading this-you should join our 50 day challenge!)

wife blog chelsea avery and alisonplease be very proud that we stuck to our 50 day challenges and did not eat our delicious/spongy/soft bread. i did absolutely spend no less than 30 seconds huffing it though.

wife blog 50 day challengeit feels good to be back in a city where i get to see a lot of my great friends again! we had many giggles (some which lead to snorting laughs), FREE wine and supported each other on our 50 day challenges-even passing up FREE cake-pops!

the new wifestyle: when you find solid, quality and fun friends-do whatever you can to maintain that relationship because they are vital to your happiness and sanity!

questions:
1) do you like running? (i have a love/hate relationship i’m working on)
2) last time someone flirted with you? (before this…3 years ago…if you don’t count my flirtatious husband)
3) do you get to see your friends this weekend? (i get to see more friends today-yay!)

    Great blog entry!

    1. I love running! I started in 2009 and have ran several 5Ks, two 8Ks, and just signed up for my first Half (3/22/14). I am doing a 5K tomorrow morning to benefit Meals On Wheels. πŸ™‚

    2. Not sure. I think a few days ago at a dance.

    3. I will get to see many friends at this week’s dance and tomorrow’s 5K and at tomorrow’s speech competition (my first one ever despite being a Toastie since 2004!). Please tell Ravery that I am using what he taught us in Columbia for my speech. πŸ™‚

    Be well!

    1. I don’t like our dislike running. I don’t ever go out of my way to do it, but if it happens in the park with aiden, then it happens.
    2. It happens a lot. I make my left hand overly obvious and I’m polite but disregarding. But every once in awhile I get someone that just follows me telling, “let me holla at cha gurl!” To which I respond, “no hollering, thank you. I’m married.”
3 it’s going to storm in kc. So I’ll just be sitting at home with my little family!

haha that’s a good way to approach running, Heather-if it happens it happens πŸ™‚ ohhh yeah i don’t like people following you saying that…i agree with no hollering. people don’t like to be hollered at. i despise cat calls and other weird things as people pass by-ew. be safe in the storm and make sure you are stocked up on hot cocoa and warm apple juice πŸ™‚

Q1) I used to like running, then i hurt my knee and can’t. I’m happy to be able to walk, though.

Q2) The last time somebody flirted with me (other than my wife, that is, which happened about 5 minutes ago), I was in college at a Swing Dance club. A beautiful woman in a red dress asked me to dance with her in the swing dance competition. I did. We made it most of the way through the song, but then I threw her into the air … and missed the catch. She hit the floor hard, and didn’t talk to me much after that. I wrote a short story about the occasion. http://www.amazon.com/Swing-ebook/dp/B008GXA89Q/

Q3) No, unless you consider my kids my friends. Then its yes. We’re supposed to get 10-ish inches of snow this evening, so I’ll likely be shoveling snow, then complaining about shoveling snow.

yeah bum knees are no good for running Joe but i SO appreciate that you are conscious of being happy to walk. i try to remember that when i’m huffing and puffing to think “hey. at least my body is capable of doing this. buck up.”

um whoa. that is quite the story about the last time someone flirted with you-i feel like there is a lesson here haaa πŸ™‚ love you wrote a short story about it too! i’ll have to check it out! and whoooa 10 inches of snow-stay safe and have SO much fun shoveling. i’ll be looking for #passiveagreesiveshoveling

Lol glad to hear you had a good time. I’m surprised you don’t get flirted with more often. Maybe you just don’t realize it when you do. I like the quote “you sneaky old man with ulterior motives. ” The only thing that would make it better would be some S.C.R.E.A.M. constructs ; ) What exactly is “huffing?”

haaa maybe Marc! i usually just assume people are being overly friend for weird reasons and recently i’ve been with my husband about 99% of the time. ha i should have used that SCREAM strategy-well done on absorbing all that information πŸ™‚ huffing bread consists of putting it to your nose and inhaling deeply multiple times.
