A Couple…Things to do on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii!
i am working on a new series entitled “a couple…(insert subject here).” it’s meant to provide tips, ideas, thoughts that couples should try because they’ve been tested by this couple (and other couples in the future).
this first one is a recap of our 3 full days in Waikiki Beach, which is located in the city of Honolulu on the island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii (whew, that’s a mouthful).
a couple tips:
#1 ask your hotel if they have any available rooms on a higher floor, looking out at the ocean. you never know if you don’t ask (or if your husband doesn’t).
#2 take time for yourself and indulge in your own desired activities.
my husband’s activity of choice was scuba diving! he wins in the picture game. wondering why i didn’t go with him? read this article on maintaining your individuality, even in marriage.
mine happened to be “sit on the beach, soak up as much sun as you can and keep the birds from taking your snacks.”
#3 stop by a local grocery store and buy a loaf of bread, peanut butter and jelly. make an agreement that you will both have one meal a day consisting of pb&j sandwich to save money!
find some other snacks but if you ever buy bananas-keep them very far away from your other foods because then everything will taste like bananas and that’s the worst. those damn infiltrating banana fumes.
#4: go explore other parts of the area you are in together!
we had a rental car (pretty affordable in Oahu) so we ventured to North Beach, about an 50 minutes north (duh) of Waikiki. North Beach is world-renowned for it’s waves but only for expert surfers.
during the winter months, most of these beaches are meant for professionals to do the surfing and you to watch (and not swim).
#5 write both of your names in the sand because it looks adorable.
#6 go find shave ice in North Shore
we got some tips that Matsumoto grocery store had the best shave ice so we waited about 10 minutes in line to get our paws on these.
if the line is too crazy, there are 2 other shave ice places literally 50 feet away and they looked good too. costs around $3 each and you can get ice cream on the bottom if you want or BEANS!!!!! i know, ew. i despise beans, even more so when they try to get in on a dessert but i saw a few people get them!
#7 take sunset photos because every single sunset is amazing and will make you look so tropical. it’s like a freakin’ postcard every single day/night.
enjoy the opportunity to be together. rekindle that sometimes stressed, crazy and unique relationship that you both share. i can personally attest…there is nothing more romantic than being in love while on the beach during a sunset. hot dang!
any other tips or comments to add?? please share them below on the blog!

My husband totally does #1 each time we’re away. It embarrasses the heck out of me but I do enjoy it when it pays off 🙂
#2 – totally agree!
#6 – I heard they’re the best. I’m intrigued by the beans.. Cooked? What type?
Now you’ve made me even more tempted to go to Hawaii. How long would you recommend staying? Max / min?
