My 29th Birthday Was a Grand Success!

wow thank you all for the outpouring of love on my 29th birthday on monday! if you are ever feeling down just change your birthday on facebook and watch the outpouring of love come in!

the official birthday celebration started early on my birthday eve so our friends could join us for brunch. jam on hawthorne is totally my jam and we waited about 40 minutes for brunch…which is record time in portland on a sunday morning.

i had a ridiculously delicious breakfast burrito and allll the hashbrowns. do you know what this pairs nicely with?  A HARRY POTTER COLORING BOOK! my bestie alison is truly the best and presented me with this gem. we also discussed me having some anxiety with actually coloring in it so perhaps i’ll photocopy the pages, do a test run and then do the official color. ha! i am only slightly kidding.

birthday time brunch

then alison surprised me with moooore and whisked me away to get a pedicure! there was good planning between her and my husband because he even brought my flip flops. good work team! the girliest thing i do is get french tips every time i get a pedicure. it makes my toes feeling like they are going to be modeling on a beach any minute and they are ready.

we knew the boys were hanging out but neither of us had any idea what they were up to. we walked into the apartment to the glorious smell of something baking (cake) and both of our guys basically shouting “do not, under any circumstance, look in the kitchen!!!!”

so we sat on the couch and badgered them. my husband was up to something that was causing him to sweat and remove his glasses so i was feeling a bit nervous as to what was occurring on the out-of-sight-counter.

turns out they were indeed baking a cake and baking each of us one! this was the first cake matt ever made and was so tasty! it was red velvet with cream cheese frosting. remember how alison wrote an awesome blog post about shopping for awesome thrift store finds? well she is taking it a step more and selling her best finds on ebay. she’s rocking it, hence the ebay cake!

how cute are they!? i am going to miss living 15 minutes from them so let’s all try to convince them to move to the mile high city with us. thanks!

my birthday cake was revealed next and i literally screamed because it was a work of beauty!

my husband straight up made me a three-tiered cake, complete with fondant frosting!!!!!! it was marble cake with chocolate frosting then covered in fondant to make it so pretty! if you’ve never been given a fondant cake, the first thing you do is poke it.

seriously, so impressed. they spent about 3 hours crafting this beauty of a beast! i then proceeded to eat too much cake and nap for the remainder of the day.

my favorite part of waking up on my real birthday was waking up next to my husband! last year he has had a gig so it was an extra treat for him to be here to celebrate with me. don’t get me wrong though, last year’s birthday was amazing because my mom surprised me and flew out to spend it with me!

we started out the morning with more breakfast burritos (as you might have seen if we are buddies on the ole snapchat) and a pretty walk outside. it has been non-stop raining, as it does it portland, so the fact that not a drop of rain was seen on my birthday AND the sun was out was a gift in itself.

out eating schedule was a bit thrown off from eating at weird times through the day so we ended up going to dinner about 4:45pm. i found this hilarious because apparently 29 years old is when i start in on the early-bird-special! that is why it was still light out when this photo was taken…

i treated myself to a birthday haircut and it’s way too short so i’m still trying to accept the fact that half of my hair doesn’t fit in a ponytail. boooooo. at least my hair smelled on point.

birthday dinner brix

apparently you can bring your dog right into the restaurant? look closely right next to the right of my husband’s head and that is for real a dog asleep in the booth at the restaurant! we were mad we didn’t bring little shugga-shug.

oh and those are pork shoulder nachos. if you are lactose intolerant it will make you feel horrible but your tastebuds will be in a state of euphoria.

my sister called me earlier in the day and demanded i opened her present with her via facetime (okay maybe not demanded. i very willingly open presents). look at the awesome harry potter bracelet she got me!!!!!! it’s a harry potter birthday!

we came home and i admired all of my colorful gifts because i have the best family and friends before i ripped them to shreds moments later. my dad sent me the tulips (my favorite flower), isn’t that so sweet!

IMG_9046 presents galore

oh, is that another cake on the table?! it sure was. my husband had some leftover so he frosted and decorated it! cakes galore!

if you watch “the goldbergs” then you know the most recent episode consisted of the husband/dad attempting to do his wife’s favorite activity of scrapbooking. he creepily wrote “you are mine” with a photo of their kid beneath it. we found it hilarious, to which i equally cracked up when he presented me with this one…

so birthday 29 is in the books and it was great! thanks for letting me share it with you! sometimes i blog to simply remember and reminisce, that would be this post.

thank you for the birthday wishes and i hope you are having a fantastic day! i am trying to figure which restaurants will open at 4pm for our early-bird-dinner tonight…

Awwww, Chelsea! I’m so glad you had such a wonderful (Harry Potter-filled) birthday! You have awesome people in your life! I am SO jealous of that bracelet. Can your sister be my sister, too? Haha! I have had that HP coloring book since before Christmas and I still haven’t put a mark in it… The anxiety is real, friend. Some day I will color in it… but for now it sits on the coffee table like the work of art it is 😀
A restaurant where you bring your dog?? (*hand in the air waving*) Pick me!! I wanna go!!

i really do have awesome people in my life, i feel pretty grateful for that! and yes, i will ask my sister if she can be your sister too. she’ll probably have you fill out an application or something but i’m sure you’ll get in 🙂

maybe for the HP book we should pick a page (low-intensity and low-favorite page) and color it together?! baby steps!
