#SisterMoms Baby Shower – A Success!

By  |  18 Comments

it is hard to believe that just last weekend was our baby shower! i say “our” because i very selflessly invited my sister to join in on the baby shower festivities since she was going to be flying out for mine anyway! i’m sure this makes up for all the times i pinched her real hard when we were kids, right??

it was hosted by our “aunties” aka the women that have been a part of our lives since we were wee lassies. our mom also had a large part in helping gather all the goodies too!

it was so fun to see my sister with her baby belly (and a little shocking). if you are recognizing this dress, i wore it for our 7th honeymoon and our mom got us matching ones!

look how cute everything was with our “ahoy baby” nautical theme! there was also a chocolate fountain complete with all the dippings! while we know that we are having a daughter (well 73% sure…) kendal and her husband have decided to wait until the birth to find out their baby’s sex!

my sister is so good at planning that she knew i was going to be wearing a black dress so she brought hers too so we could match like we did when we met up in kansas city! then she changed back but it was fun to see us twinning!

our nana and papa drove in from missouri, that’s our pretty mama in the middle and my lovely mother-in-law in the blue (who lives here now – yay!)

baby shower ladies

our cousin and uncle also came out from missouri AND my bestie alison flew in from portland! she then proceeded to be the perfect person to ironman spectate with the following day but more on that later. also importantly – she shared her new curl cream and i adore it.

here’s what i learned about baby showers – if you hate playing games at showers then you can request not to play any games at your own shower and it’s awesome! instead, there were a few super cute stations that i must share with you…

this was the ‘share your wisdom station’ and it had sheets of paper to write  prompted advice on! this advice was for me and kendal and then to our babies. we haven’t read them yet but i know i will be a big bundle of tears once i do and cherish them always. people spent a ton of time on them and can’t wait to see them!

IMG_0142 baby shower

the other cute station was “late night diaper encouragement” – too fun! i have exceptional discipline and have not read these yet because i know i will definitely need the humor and encouragement during all those late night diaper changes!

also – our baby can safely come any day now – whaaaaat!?!

IMG_0143 baby shower

we opened gifts simultaneously because watching people open gifts is almost as weird as being the one to open gifts in front of people. plus, we literally had a sea of gifts to get through – these babies are seriously spoiled!

IMG_0227 baby shower

i got my sister’s baby a colorado onesie – in hopes of persuading her to move back here!

IMG_0178 baby shower

she totally won because she got my baby a HARRY POTTER ONESIE, in hopes that our daughter is a witch, of course.

IMG_0177 baby shower

actually, i raked in some awesome harry potter swag (not pictured is a texture blanket/toy our friend kim made):

thanks alison, kendal and kate for already supporting the love she will inevitably have for the harry potter series! sadly, my husband vetoed ‘hermione’ as a name…

i have decided that tiny jeans are one of the cutest articles of clothing for babies (those are for a 1 year old!)

i also read NONE of my cards at the baby shower because i was a big ball of tears at how generous, kind and sweet everyone was in them. i had a good cry fest reading them yesterday.

my sister’s favorite gift was her new luxurious airplane neck pillow*…

IMG_0269 baby shower

*it’s actually a breastfeeding pillow but so funny that she did this. my husband once saw a man carrying one around his neck through the airport for his wife and said “that seems a little excessive for a neck pillow.” ha!

one of the highlights? our baby shower ‘cake.’ as you may know, there is a famous donut shop in portland, oregon called ‘voodoo doughnuts’ and they recently opened a store here in denver. i was looking online and saw that they do custom orders so we ordered the ‘unicorn cake’ with 2 dozen donuts. according to the photo, i imagined the unicorn part to be about the size of a small plate…oh how wrong i was! how hilarious and amazing is this?!

baby shower donut cake

it was one whole donut (not lots of little ones) and needed about the half the frosting when actually eating it but it was one of the best donuts i have ever had! i couldn’t stop laughing at how massive it was…

my soulfriend lindsey schlepped that unicorn and 24 donuts for us – that’s the mark of an amazing friend!

so grateful to have my various worlds collide and for our little one to already be so loved!

baby shower friends

special thanks to our mama and our aunties for putting on a fabulous joint baby shower for me and my sister!

baby shower aunties

it was such an insane weekend that my sister flew in late friday night (i was in bed when she landed) that i only got to spend a few hours with her during our baby shower. right after the shower, i headed up to boulder to support my husband in his ironman. grateful for those few hours together with her before we become official #sistermoms!

baby shower sister moms

as you know, my husband is a minimalist and i tend to love hoarding things but even i felt overwhelmed with all the baby things we have now (she’s not even here yet)! since he wasn’t at the shower, i went through and showed him all of the generous things people got us and we are still in the midst of finding places for all of these things! we are so grateful.

Yay Bavery can come on out now! That donut cake looks delish. I hole punched all my sweet cards and put them on a ring for days I need a little encouragement. Usually I toss cards but I couldn’t bear to with all the sweet baby notes.
