It’s Not Perfect, But it’s Home!

i have been fortunate to travel to a multiple countries in my relatively short life and i can say, without hesitation, that each time i land back on american soil i feel a sense of gratitude as well as being home. there is no other place i’d rather be a citizen of other than the united states of america.

america still has a long way to go in many areas but i do believe we are a country that is moving forward, becoming more accepting and is a place full of opportunities. this can be easy to take for granted because we get used to comfort and the privileges that our nationality affords us, often without noticing. not everything is perfect, but it’s home for me. there is still a ton that needs to change here but i am a grateful to call this country my home.

i hope my american friends have a very happy and safe 4th of july celebration this weekend! i happened to put on a red dress 2 days ago while in florida so it seems only appropriate to share it! also, when you are married to someone who is 6’4, he has legs for days.

ryan and chelsea avery speakersjust in case you need a last minute go-to dessert to bring to a gathering, blackberry almond bars are hands-down my  absolutely favorite (thanks alison for bringing this into my life.)

we have very big plans for the 4th of july of moving our mattress into the living room by the only AC unit in apartment because suddenly living in portland, oregon is hotter than living in florida. there are less old people here though and not as much humidity but still, bring me back my 82 degree weather.

happy birthday, america! i hope you get your cake and eat it too (and i know you will…because you are american and we never say no to cake/sugar/food.)

what are you up to this fine weekend?

This crazy hot weekend we are keeping an eye on forest fires around here. Yikes. Going to a little party tonight, tomorrow we might hit Powell River to get Meg some new stuff for her ONtario trip by herself and Sunday we are going to watch the women’s world cup- I have to cheer for the U.S. since England is gone and then we are hitting the LAKE. Happy July 4th!

Ahh, life without central a/c! We’re living it, too, but we have a window unit in the bedroom and the living room 🙂 Hope you had a wonderful, safe holiday weekend! We celebrated with target shooting, bbqs, and lots of friends/family!
