The Price of Luxury Hotels

By  |  16 Comments

this past week in los cabos, mexico was incredible! despite a flight delay and then our pre-ordered taxi deciding they didn’t want to pick us up 2 hours later, we were still incredibly excited! this was our first time in mexico together and any time we experience a new place for the first time together, we get a little giddy.

mix already being giddy with the arrival at “the one and only palmilla” resort and we flipped our lid. i literally kept dropping my jaw and exclaiming “OMG” with eyes wider than a teenager boy on the beach.

as our personal tour guide lead us towards the beach, he simply said “….and here is where you will be staying mr. & mrs. avery”

los cabos palmilla our villa

los cabos palmilla villa ravery

that was our own private hammock, table and big green chair!!!!

my husband spoke at this resort the next morning so we got the hook-up the night before and now my expectations of all hotels and resorts is forever skewed. forever. this is the price of the luxury of hotels.

here were some firsts that we experienced in the lap of luxury:

  • our own private butler should we need anything
  • private access to the beach
  • top shelf complimentary tequila (6 shots worth) waiting for us
  • palmilla los cabos tequillasomeone immediately replacing the white cloth napkin on my lap with a black cloth napkin because it matched my outfit better
  • aromatherapy turn down service
  • IMG_3540seeing that two eggs and two pieces of toast cost $22
  • being at the pool and someone bringing over a bucket filled with ice water and a refreshing body mist following by a pillow for my knees, head and fan
  • upon our departure the next afternoon, having the butler offer to pack for me (i think i’ll stick to packing my own dirty clothes for now)
  • being the only ones to use our brand new selfie-stick!

it was truly remarkable.

instead of coming back to the states for a few days before we needed to leave again for australia, we decided to extend our trip. we tried out a groupon trip and was pleasantly surprised by it all.

i was feeling a little snooty when we first switched hotels because again, my expectations are now forever skewed. after i drank my margarita, ate surprisingly delicious food and focused my view on the beach (not construction) we had a fantastic few days here too.

bel air what can you doour room wasn’t ready when we arrived so we ate first and it was totally worth the wait for our amazing room with a spectacular view!

bel air good view roomit was also amusing that we could see our other luxury hotel on the tip of the peninsula from our room!

los cabos view of palmillamy husband spent a day scuba diving while i sat on the beach and “#GIRLBOSSed” it up! a quick and inspiring read whether you are currently an entrepreneur or not.  it helped to kick my booty into gear so stay tuned because i’ll be asking you some important questions soon!

girl boss chelsea avery los caboswe tried to selfie-stick our “peace flag” ritual but that didn’t work too well…

IMG_1899it was really shocking to see how much my view of “nice” shifted after being in the lap of luxury. i didn’t really expect that. it took some readjusting of my own head to appreciate the experiences and not wish to be back in a certain other place. it was a good reminder not to let certain circumstances negatively sway other experiences!

we are now off to australia and are so excited to visit the land down under for the first time (cue EXTREME giddiness).

overall, we had a fantastic first part of our trip and excited for the next adventure!

questions:
1) have you been to cabo before?
2) nicest feature in a hotel that you’ve experienced?
3) looking for book recommendations, have you read any great ones (fiction or non-fiction welcome)?

A luxury hotel would definitely be a surreal experience! I loved your list of all the crazy ‘extras’ included. The most ‘extravagant’ place we’ve ever stayed was a bed & breakfast with a jacuzzi in the room. That’s my idea of living in the lap of luxury. 😛

I have never been to Cabo but after scrolling through Instagram and seeing your pictures I’ve already told Kyle that we’re headed there next! SO BEAUTIFUL!

When we visited Jamaica we were spoiled with included-alcohol and heated floors and beach-front rooms. I love that you made the mental adjustment to enjoy yourself wherever you go!

I’m happy as long as a hotel has a free breakfast in the morning, haha! (bonus points if they have one of those make your own waffle stations… yum) Hope australia is AMAZING!!!! Can’t wait to hear all about it! 🙂 🙂

I’ve been at a place that did the napkin thing too and it was soooo fancy. I couldn’t get over it.

I agree about expectation. I’ve never been in a place as nice as you got to be in in Cabo, but I think just thinking of it as a singular experience (kind of like a day trip or something) helps with expectations on other parts of the trip.

Book Recommendation-I will sound like broken record, but I don’t care. Read Amy Poehler’s Yes, Please. I love it so much. Also, try the “Happiness of Pursuit” by Chris Guillebeau
