Because Sometimes Questions Need to be Answered

By  |  23 Comments

here’s a (now public) secret about me…i LOVE answering questions. it’s true. i do. those long forms at the doctor’s office? the more the merrier. ridiculous quizzes in magazines that help me determine what shape my body is or what type of lover i am? give it to me. questionnaires from fun bloggers like melissa and amanda? done and done!

they both nominated me for the the sisterhood of the world blogging award so thank you ladies.

apparently “this award is to acknowledge, to inspire, to encourage, and to spread the love.” more love should always be spread so let’s get to it!

i’ve combined a few of my favorite questions from them because i’m supposed to be working The Map To Dreaming Big so i have to focus or something (eventually).

okay, let’s answer those questions…

something or someone you miss from childhood?

food answer? i miss dunkaroos like whooooa.

on a deeper level? i miss backyard adventures with my sister and friends. i miss that my mind was filled more with imagination and magic rather than stress. i miss hearing my parents get home from work and having dinner with them. i should probably book a flight home soon and eat dunkroos on the plane…

if you had the chance to be invisible for a day, what would you do?

i would probably not do anything that interesting. maybe see a movie without paying but then leave the money somewhere else for them to find because i have a very guilty conscience.

what was the last item you bought? (bonus points: convince us we need to buy it too!)

the last thing i bought were these copper moscow mule mugs! not only are these pretty to sit out on a table but they also make whatever beverage you put in them extra delicious. they add a heavy ‘cool’ factor to my life. a happy hour is in store soon with my husband so i’m sure i’ll snap an instagram

would you rather be a tree or live in a tree and why?

oh how i love trees! i even have a tree tattooed directly onto my body (much to my mother’s original dismay and my father’s encouragement). i would absolutely want to live in a treehouse. my husband was amazing and surprised with me a tree house hotel stay in washington and it is by far the coolest place we’ve ever stayed!

if you had to eat a food that was your favorite color, what would it be?

i don’t really have a favorite color because selecting ‘favorite things’ stresses me out. i guess i have to say skittles so that i can taste the rainbow?

what is your favorite inspirational quote?

again, i can’t select a ‘favorite’ but right now i’m really into “dreams don’t happen because we dream them…they happen because we do something about them.” hard but true fact, folks.

what is your favorite piece of art in your home and why? (post a picture!!)

okay, i have two favorites. this beautiful oil painting my grandma did from a picture of me on a beach in thailand! she surprised us at christmas with this and another painting from our wedding. how talented is she?!

FullSizeRendermy other favorite piece is a drawing done by my dad (talk about talented artists in my family!)

tree drawing chelsea avery

he gave this to me on my 22nd with a beautiful note attached to the back. i love trees and they hold many symbolic meanings to me.

two of my favorite lines from his note are:

a healthy tree will have a root system that is nearly the same size below ground as what we visualize above ground. similarly, a healthy person will also strive for balance both externally and internally. however, it sometimes isn’t until we are tested by some force, that we, like a tree, will truly know.

…human seasons are not quite as predictable or sequential as those of a tree. we may experience the emotional equivalent of all four seasons within the same month or we may experience and spend several years in one season.

that’s some deep stuff right there. i hadn’t read that note in a few years and wouldn’t have seen it unless i moved the drawing to snap the photo. yeah…i totally cried reading the whole thing so amanda, thanks for this question.

you’re out with your besties, what song do you pick to sing for Karaoke night?

britney. anything britney.

if you could plan the best weekend getaway for you and your significant other and everything was being paid for by someone else (with lots of money to spare) what would you do? where would you go?

actually…i totally need help with this! my husband is a pro at surprises, especially around birthdays and i’m not so great at them. all suggestions on what i should do for him in the beginning of may for his birthday are welcome! oh and since i don’t think anyone will actually foot the bill, don’t get too crazy.

what i know he would love is if i packed a suitcase for him and drove him an unsuspecting way to the airport for a complete-surprise trip! he would want to go scuba diving so maybe we’d go to belize (i hear they have excellent beaches and margaritas…i mean scuba diving spots).

so there you have it!

now i nominate these ladies below (and you should check out their blogs):

ashley @ saving money in your 20s
lindsay @ the wife in training
amanda @ amanda moments
rachel @ the random writings of rachel
audrey @ life as louise

questions for my nominees (should you be up for the task):

what “made up” world from a book would you like to live in and obviously why?

would you rather have to sweat mustard or sneeze bees?

what is one of your absolute favorite meals? (please include your dessert selection)

if you knew you couldn’t fail, what would you do?

what 80s or 90s sitcom would you want to live in?

what is something you would tell your high school self?

what is one of your most prized possessions? (pictures make things better)

(even if i didn’t nominate you, i still like you a lot and would still really like to know the answer to one or any of the questions so feel free to leave it below!)

here are some “rules” i found from amanda for you:

-answer the questions from the person that nominated you.
-nominate some of your blogging sisterhood. there is no set number for this, go crazy!
-ask your nominees some very important questions. again, no set number.

Dunkaroo’s were great! I miss the little cheese snacks that had a mini bread stick, and a little container full of fake cheese. THE BEST. Oh my goodness… that tree house is the absolute best — it looks amazing! I’ve also heard Belize is amazing, but I’ve never been so I can’t offer much help on that front, either!

sweat mustard or sneeze bees?! WHERE DO YOU COME UP WITH THIS?! ahahahha. also side story: dunkaroos bring me back to my freshman year of college– my friends baked me a birthday cake but then some jerk STOLE IT out of the kitchen?!?! so they gave me dunkaroos instead with candles in the icing and it was hilarious and awesome 🙂

haha. it’s because i’m married to a man that used to be OBSESSED with asking “would you rathers” so i eventually had to come up with some crazy ones.

wait. before i get the fact that someone stole your birthday cake (whaaat?!) YOU HAD DUNKAROOS access in college?! totally jealous. i cannot believe someone stole your cake right from the kitchen. what an ass.

I would definitely leave the money after the movie too 🙂 And speaking of surprise trips – when my husband turned 30, I picked him up at work, drove him to the airport and we went to VEGAS! He had no idea, and it was awesome.

OK, so the rest of my comment, now that I have more time to think: Thanks so much for the nomination! I’m going to skip answering/accepting these on my blog itself, but I’ll totes answer them here:
-what “made up” world from a book would you like to live in and obviously why?: Wonderland! It’s colorful, crazy and there are cats.
-would you rather have to sweat mustard or sneeze bees? Sweating mustard sounds much safer. Could it be mayo instead though?
-what is one of your absolute favorite meals? (please include your dessert selection) BACON! A big ol’ plate of it.
-if you knew you couldn’t fail, what would you do? Open my kitty hotel:) And also hire Lil Jon to write and sing me a jingle to use for it.
-what 80s or 90s sitcom would you want to live in?: I lean toward Family Matters.
-what is something you would tell your high school self?: Chill the eff out, girl. You have plenty of time to figure it all out.
-what is one of your most prized possessions?(pictures make things better): Hmm, aside from my wedding rings, I think my grandma’s jewelry box ranks high. It’s nothing special, but super practical and I remember rifling through it all the time to play with her jewelry as a kid, so to have it for my own now is really special.

That tree drawing is amazing. Those copper mugs are pretty sweet–we’re fond of metal dishes in this house, though so far our cups are only stainless steel and pewter. I introduced Angel to pewter and now he’s obsessed.
I share your love with answering questions–though mine tends to take the form of whenever anyone asks any sort of question, including on topics I don’t know the least thing about, it’s my gut reaction to just offer an answer, even if I’m totally pulling it out of thin air.

Like, “Hey, anyone know how many soldiers were in Genghis Khan’s army?”

ohhh metal dishes! how fun! i totally love pewter too and live vicariously through my mom’s collection. where do you get yours from?

i can already tell you are also one of those people that is incredibly convincing when you answer those questions right out of thin air. i could see myself being very gullible with all of your answers…
