Tell Me Something Good – Our Porch

By  |  10 Comments

has anyone else thought it was a different day every day this week? i have been confused since last friday but thankfully my trusty calendar told me it is actually friday again so here we are – the good stuff!

i think it’s because in the US of A, monday was the 4th of july so that has put me off a day. i can’t remember the last time i got to spend a 4th of july with both of my parents and it made me quite happy! plus, this dream boat makes every holiday the best ever (you can decide if i’m referring to ravery or sugar).

funny story about that striped shirt. i originally put it on that morning to make ravery laugh because i imagined it would be like a cut-off, exposing half of my belly. turns out it was longer than i remember so i kept it on (plus i have a real hatred of changing clothes). it’s a darn good thing i’m wearing these maternity shorts with a belly band otherwise my belly would definitely be exposed at the bottom. ha!

we had my dad over for brunch and it was glorious. if we are buddies on the snap, then you saw my husband baking bacon instead of frying it and oh my goodness, do itttttt. you are welcome. my dad brought us that festive bouquet on the table – what a thoughtful guy (plus his shirt is A+).

after that, we relaxed for a few hours before heading to my mom and stepdad’s house. by ‘relax’ i mean i tried to take a 2 hour nap because i am always lacking sleep but instead just laid there, wide-eyed and full of bacon and pancakes.

my cousins were in town visiting from arizona so it was extra fun to see them and be around their 3 and 6 year olds! turns out you really have to watch kids pretty consistently otherwise they will potentially injure themselves or others. don’t worry, i wrote that down in my “good tips for when you are a parent” journal.

yes, the love of stripes is hereditary (but popping a collar skipped a generation).

so yes, all of these constitute very good things happening around me but get ready for the kicker. we got home around 9pm (still somewhat light out) because now that’s when i get in bed. as we pulled through our neighborhood, we noticed the streets lined with people. at first i thought there must be free ice cream nearby or something and then my husband said “ohhh fireworks must be close!”

as we walked up our little sidewalk, past families gathered around on our front lawn area, we started hearing fireworks go off!

i have never lived in a place where i could see fireworks while sitting on my porch. i can say that no longer:fireworks

yes, that was taken in between trips inside to go to the bathroom, get a popsicle and then get more water whenever i darn well pleased. what a luxury! we were both so surprised and so grateful to witness not one but two firework shows from two different parks – all while comfortably seated on our porch. we both felt immense gratitude for the place we are making home!

tell me something good that is going on in your world!

Aw I love the pic of you and your mom. That’s awesome that the shirt still fit, I’m pretty sure all my pre-baby shirts are now crop tops even t-shirts. Sounds like y’all live in a cute little community.

i was highly surprised that shirt went down decently fair enough not to be a complete crop top – ha! we do live in such a cute little community – we feel extra grateful for it!

AquaZumba! It’s dancing in water! So no one can see my feet and I don’t even know if I am on the right step! I also starting picking through the baby clothes that people have so generously given us and we have clothes for 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 9 months, 18 months, 24 months, 36 months, and even 4 years old! I wonder if we will get her to wear them all since all babies are different sizes.. and what you think will fit a 3-6 month old might actually be a newborn.. so we shall see! Exciting that you had fireworks from your porch.. That is the dream! I am super excited for you three! Our little pooch, Miss Cachet is curious about fireworks but happy to say she is not scared of them.. HALLELUJAH! Happy Friday !!

What an awesome yet simple thing to be grateful for, Chelsea! I love that you got to see both parents, too! Living in a new place I keep finding all these things I am grateful for that I can barely keep them in until bedtime. From last nights gratefuls: the fresh air, friends, the quiet, free wifi, BC cherries, gluten-free and vegetarian sushi.

fantastic gratefuls elyse! so happy you have so many gluten-free options in your new home too woohoo!!! maybe since you’re experiencing so much goodness right now in your life, you can shout them out when they are happening instead of saving them all until bed time 🙂

Being able to see fireworks from your yard is a game changer! And you guys have such a great view!! Joe and I realized that we missed a firework show on Saturday night that we could have seen from our front yard, we’ll have to watch it next year. But there’s one that we can watch from our backyard on the 4th, and that was perfect because Bensen goes to bed so early. We just took his monitor out with us and enjoyed the show while he slept 🙂

how awesome that you can see fireworks from your front AND backyard, amberly! sounds like a pretty perfect 4th and even better that you could see fireworks with little bensen (hopefully) asleep inside!
