Tell Me Something Good Friday – Donuts Delight

By  |  14 Comments
here we go with the second edition of “tell me something good,” which was debuted last friday along with the intent behind it!
it occurred yet again at a grocery store (can you tell i spend most of my time buying food?) i was casually perusing the individual bagels in the bakery, contemplating whether or not my morning should include a sesame bagel or just an entire loaf of bread. this is when i saw the goodness happen.
a young boy, probably around four years ago with his trustyย thomas the train backpack larger than his own back, stood in front of the section next to me. he gazed up with a twinkle in his eye and his mouth fell slightly open – he found the donut section.
tell me something good donuts
i noticed an elderly man come up behind him and rest his withered hands on his grandson’s shoulders. the young boy whipped around, turning his gaze from the glazed donuts to his grandfather’s eyes and said,
oh pleeeeeease can i have just one?! i promise it won’t ruin my dinner! pleeeeeeease!?!?
their eyes locked for a few moments and then the grandfather gave a swift nod and said,
pick the best one!
he chose the one with sprinkles. smart kid.
the grandfather helped him put it in the little bag and folded over the top, to decrease the chance of an escape should the bag drop. with an extra pep in his step, the little boy grabbed the donut in one hand and hisย grandfather’s hand with the other.
that, to me, was simple goodness.
your turn – tell me something good you have seen lately!

Grocery stores! Love them. Love going to them near and far, high end or low. Very magical places with lots of local color and raucous marketing galore. Love them. Always have. Always will. I’m tall. People ask for my help frequently to reach the high shelf stuff for them. I’m a grocery store addict, you might say.

Hey Chelsie!! My husband, who is just awesome, went to my car last night and fixed my seat belt buckle which keeps sliding all the way down to the slot between the door and seat, it seems like a small favor till you hurt your back (sadface) but now you don’t have to reach ALL the way down to get it. He is ALWAYS doing things like this.. but that is my “tell you something good” Friday! (totally heard it in my head by the way) ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s probably why I have such a positive association with donuts–my dad would always treat us to one after church; my grandparents always brought them to us when they came to visit; and my dad would buy one for us after our dentist appointments when we were kids (don’t worry guys, we never had cavities, and what else are you supposed to do when there’s a Krispy kreme practically next door?)

That. Is. Adorable. “Pick the best one” made me smile so hard. ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, not to be creepy, but your grocery store’s donut section and price signs look a lot like my grocery store’s donut section and price signs. Do they have Tom Thumb in Portland? Gahhh, we even shop at the same grocery store. Blog BFFs furreal.

riiiight?! the cutest. i got a little misty watching it – like a creeper. we do not have “tom thumb” grocery stores in portland – it was a safeway! maybe they are owned by the same peeps OR there is a donut sign printer that has a monopoly over all the stores! basically blog BFFs for ever, regardless of exactly same store ๐Ÿ™‚

That is so sweet! I wanted to participate this week but so far I haven’t witnessed anything…I’ll blame it on the heartless Torontonians.
