Songs that Make Pregnant Women Cry “Happy Tears”

By  |  16 Comments

maybe it’s the hormones, maybe it’s just that sometimes pregnant women need to cry ‘happy tears.’ it is no secret that i am a crier. yes of course i cry when something is sad but i tend to get all misty-eyed at the good things too. if someone sends me a thoughtful card – tears. if someone says something ultra kind to me – tears. if i witness loving affection between two gray-haired seniors (meaning they are old – not the hip trend of dyed gray hair of high school seniors) – tears.

now i’m finding songs about babies and parenting to really send me over the edge of happy tears! my husband doesn’t quite get the concept that sometimes it just feels good to cry, especially positive tears. so for those of you that get what i’m saying – here are some happy songs to turn on the waterworks!

i’ve also included a portion of the lyrics that got to me!

happy songs for pregnant women

dan + shay – “from the ground up”

Me and you baby, walk in the footsteps
Build our own family
One day at a time
Ten little toes, a painted pink room
Our beautiful baby looks just like you

And we’ll build this love from the ground up
For worse or for better
And I will be all you need
Beside you I’ll stand through the good and the bad
We’ll give all that we have
And we’ll build this love from the ground up

beyonce – “blue”

Each day I feel so blessed to be looking at you
Cause when you open your eyes, I feel alive
My heart beats so damn quick when you say my name
When I’m holding you tight, I’m so alive

tim mcgraw – “humble & kind”

When the dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride but
Always stay humble and kind

Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you
When you get where you’re goin
Don’t forget turn back around
And help the next one in line
Always stay humble and kind

lukas graham – “7 years”

Soon we’ll be thirty years old, our songs have been sold
We’ve traveled around the world and we’re still roaming
Soon we’ll be thirty years old

I’m still learning about life
My woman brought children for me
So I can sing them all my songs
And I can tell them stories

mackelmore w/ ryan lewis featuring ed sheeran – “growing up (sloan’s song)

They say girls shouldn’t be tough
And moms should raise their kids at home
But baby, I know that that isn’t true
Cause your momma’s the toughest person I know
I wanna raise you to be like her
And watch you show the world how to do it on your own

I love you and I can’t give you enough of that
Get back to community that raised you up

You’re only young once, my love, one, this is your chance
Take risks, cause life moves so fast

stevie wonder – “isn’t she lovely”

Isn’t she lovely
Isn’t she wonderful
Isn’t she precious
Less than one minute old
I never thought through love we’d be
Making one as lovely as she
But isn’t she lovely made from love

carole king – “child of mine”

You don’t need direction, you know which way to go
And I don’t want to hold you back, I just want to watch you grow
You’re the one who taught me you don’t have to look behind
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine

Nobody’s gonna kill your dreams
Or tell you how to live your life
There’ll always be people to make it hard for a while
But you’ll change their heads when they see you smile

The times you were born in may not have been the best
But you can make the times to come better than the rest

taylor swift – “starlight”

Ooh ooh he’s talking crazy
Ooh ooh dancing with me
Ooh ooh we could get married
Have ten kids* and teach them how to dream

Like we’re made of starlight, starlight
Like we dream impossible dreams

*note: we will not be having 10 kids but we will teach our kids to dream

trace atkins – “you’re gonna miss this”

Five years later there’s a plumber workin’ on the water heater
Dog’s barkin’, phone’s ringin’
One kid’s cryin’, one kid’s screamin’
She keeps apologizin’
He says “They don’t bother me
I’ve got two babies of my own
One’s thirty six, one’s twenty three
Huh, it’s hard to believe, but

You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this

i am always willing to add ‘happy tears songs’ to my list – so which ones do you love that give you all the feels?

OH my gosh why do you do this to yourself?! My family said “You’re Going to Miss This” was essentially my song growing up. I was always ready to grow up. If I was feeling really mean I could send that song to my dad right now. (Who has been getting misty eyed since February about my impending marriage.)

“you’re going to miss this” made me cry before I was even pregnant, so you can imagine what it does to me now!!! I actually had no songs to add to the list… but I am amazed at how easily I cry now (yes, it’s hormones!!!) but I am so in touch with all my feelings much more readily.. it’s awesome and hard at the same time!

haha i totally cried to that one before pregnant too – it’s such a good and valid point because we have all been there, wanting time to pass quicker! glad to hear you are appreciating being more in touch with your feelings jennifer – love that!

Definitely will be adding these to my list! You’ve got to listen to “Everything Changes,” by Sara Bareilles. She wrote it for the musical Waitress, but I love hearing her sing it. I actually had this song on my labor & delivery playlist, and it just happened to come on right after she was born. I still feel super strong emotions when I hear it, even five months later!

“Isn’t She Lovely” was what my father and I danced to at our wedding. I was glowing that night instead of crying but EVERY other time it never fails to make me cry!

Ugh. “You’re Gonna Miss This” gets me every freaking time. So does Darius Rucker’s “It Won’t Be Like This For Long.” (K danced with his mom to that song at our wedding and I straight up lost it. I was a royal wreck.) “Humble & Kind” is also a big one for me. I’d add “Love, Me” by Collin Raye. I die every time I hear it. Go listen right now but brace yourself. UGH. (A part of me wishes we’d have danced to that song when we got married, ha.)

oh my goodness – all the tears right now! why is it so sweet to hear “i’ll met you when my chores are through!?” and grandpas crying make me cry so hard.

Oh Chelsea! The tears really started to hit me after my baby daughter was born. I’d be swaying around the living room with her in my arms listening to music and it seemed like the lyrics to EVERY song was meant for her. It’s a powerful time.
The song that gets me now is called Welcome. It’s by the Canadian band, Hey Rosetta!
