Pitch Perfect 2 Movie Review

By  |  20 Comments

when my husband found out that they were going to be coming out with a pitch perfect 2 movie, i’m pretty sure he set a google word alert for when the trailer was released (not kidding).

he was SO excited and i mean, i liked the first one a lot but i wasn’t running around in circles and clapping when the trailer was released.

however, when i got invited to go to a prescreening of the film, that’s when i started running around and clapping! i love going to the movies but we don’t go very often because we are saving up our dollar bills for the crazy travels we are embarking on this year with ‘the map to dreaming big!’ we fit right in, don’t we?

pitch perfect 2 review the new wifestyle

despite a large crowd and some chaos about what was going on before the event last night, pitch perfect 2 was excellent! if you loved the first one, you will absolutely love this one! i have been singing this since we left the theater (fast forward to 1:15):

at 2:09 she sings “you’re gonna miss the way i talk…oh, you’re gonna miss me when i’m gone.” all i can hear (and now you will too is) “you’re gonna miss the way i TACO.” i’m looking at you lindsay.

i will say that while i love anna kendrick, her character ‘bella’ was slightly more annoying this time around. she wasn’t as badass as i wanted her to be like she was in the last one. also, her and jesse’s relationship wasn’t really explored and we all know i love relationships so boooo to that. fat amy made up for this in many ways so that helped.

the main emcee’s who were running “the talk a capella podcast” were funny but the guy was super sexist and it was obviously meant to be in a somewhat ironic way with elizabeth banks sometimes calling him out. i didn’t love this piece since the theater was filled with 98% girls between the ages of 10-18 and i was pretty sure the irony was going over there heads.

hearing “and that’s why we shouldn’t let girls go to college” probably sinks in at some unconscious level and i could only hope the girls watching this movie knew it was in there to be ironic. is it weird that i wanted to stop everyone at the doors so we could process this piece of it?

huge bonus points for pitch perfect 2 containing zero scenes of vomit, which made me almost hate the last one solely based on this point so yay! the movie contains a surprising amount of unexpected celebrities (from politicians to football players to news anchors and beyond) so that was fun to see who kept popping up!

all that being said, if you love mash-ups, you love choreographed dancing and hysterical one-liners, lezbihonest that you will love pitch perfect 2. i did stamp it with the approval of “aca-awesome” afterwards.

the icing on the cake might have been the sweet cups we got as some swag so i’m currently practicing my cup routine right now…

pitch perfect 2 reviewjust in case you need to get excited, here’s the trailer to get excited! it comes out on friday, may 15!

questions:
1) are you a fan of pitch perfect?
2) can you sing well or dance well? (and can you teach me?!)
3) what’s the last movie you saw in a theater?

thanks to janet wainwright public relations for our complimentary tickets! all reviews, thoughts and opinions are my own because that’s part of being a vocal woman.

Dang it. Now I hear “taco” when that part is sung. It’s like Taylor Swift and her Starbucks lovers 😉

I enjoyed the first Pitch Perfect- it was funny. It’s nice to have some female comedies like Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect out there 🙂 Now you have me a little more excited to see the 2nd one! (Although the idea of Bella being MORE annoying is a downer… She’s a little whiny and pities herself in the first one…) Glad you had fun!!

haha i am SO glad you heard the ‘taco’ now too audrey! it’s there and it cannot be unheard.

totally agree that it’s so good to have some hilarious female comedies! makes my heart happy. i’ll be curious if you think she’s more annoying in this one…report back 🙂

Boo to the sexism! And that actually makes me sad there’s no vomit. The vomit angel scene from the last one is 50% the reason I love the entire movie. No joke.

I’ll admit, I didn’t read the post because I was afraid of spoilers. I LOVED Pitch Perfect, so I’ve been counting down the days until the second one was announced. I will be seeing it with my husband on Friday. I can’t wait!

Ok so I ‘might’ have run around clapping when I heard there was going to be a sequel….I might even have made my hubby watch the first one in preparation. I pretty much loved Bella in the first one so crossed fingers I don’t find her way too annoying in this one. Also boo for the sexism and for the whole no major relationship thing between bella and jesse (because I love them).

haha sounds like you are ready to go, elizabeth! let me know what you think of bella! for some reason she just wasn’t doing for me for most of the movie but somewhat redeemed herself at the end. get ready for some seriously good mash-ups!

I saw a media screening of the movie last night too! I really enjoyed it and I completely agree about the no vomit thing. I noticed there were a few different jokes that were really funny but went over a bunch of people’s head.

i am glad you agree about that horrid scene from the first movie, diana. i can’t think about it. you are spot on that a lot of jokes went over the younger crowd’s head. at least we knew it was funny 🙂
