Help Me (and the hubs) Speak at SXSW!

By  |  7 Comments

the old chelsea would secretly apply for something, tell no one and then pretend she didn’t care about the outcome. the new chelsea is now utilizing her boldness and talking in the third person about herself!

i did something big and applied to speak at SXSW. i know. i can’t believe i just said/wrote that out loud either. i’m getting sweaty and nervous just thinking about it. SXSW is an epic 9 day experience/conference held in austin, texas and started out as a music festival and has now expanded to include a film component and interactive speakers and panels.

according to their website, “SXSW’s original goal was to create an event that would act as a tool for creative people and the companies they work with to develop their careers, to bring together people from a wide area to meet and share ideas.”

my talk is entitled “business partner + life partner: can they coexist?” and i’ve invited my husband to speak with me, since he is involved in both my business and personal life.

new, bold chelsea would like to ask a HUGE favor of you and that is to VOTE for our talk to be selected at SXSW for march 2015. the staff there looks at a percentage of public votes so it would be incredibly helpful (though i’m slightly terrified) and it’s a pain the keester because you have to sign in before you can give a “thumbs up” in the upper left corner and i KNOW that’s annoying but it would mean a lot to me/us.

if you vote and then send me your mailing address, i will even write you a hand-written thank you note and promise not to show up to your house either unless i’m invited (that’s a pretty good deal).

when you go to the link, you can see a hilarious and awkward one-shot video we did together! we had initially agreed that we would do a practice run so you can see my fixing my hair more than a beauty queen, enjoying the remnants of the wheat thins i just ate and also doing a highly inappropriate hand gesture which i hope doesn’t get us disqualified.

here’s the freeze frame of it (you’ll have to go to the website to watch). i look like i’m wishing on a star that my husband would stop channeling his thuggish ways.

here is the website for our proposal and T H A N K  Y O U for taking the time to vote for us because remember when i could have absolutely panicked on my first international stage but somehow didn’t? i’d like the opportunity to not panic at SXSW too and prove to myself i can do intimidating and exciting things.

please also share this article or this link with your friends http://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote/36435 because this counts for 30% of making it to the next round!

cheers and we (including my gray hairs) thank you!

Hi Chelsea and Ryan, I just discover your story because I was looking for ideas to promote a sxsw talk and so I found this article.

Then I read your speech and I loved it, let me explain why:

    – I have a business with my boyfriend (he’s the one who aim to speak at sxsw)
    – I had different problems while running the business together
    – I recently wrote a post on Medium about it and I received different responses from other couple/company
    – If you like to read it, here it is: https://medium.com/@nikla88/my-co-founder-is-my-boyfriend-how-we-made-it-works-215e23d214d4 (I’ll appreciate your thoughts 😉 )

I wish you the best for your talk, I already voted 😉

PS If you’re interested in social media marketing, vote for my partner’s speaker as well http://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote/35817
    Thanks!
