Grammys, Canceled Flights and Accepting I was Wrong

we are still on the ‘sick end’ of the healthy spectrum over in this neck of the woods but my husband is finally starting to turn the corner. i am still guzzling vitamin C in hopes to avoid it since we get on a plane on thursday (for 4.5 hours) and head to Chicago, IL for the weekend!

yesterday our day consisted of working and a workshop in Nanaimo, British Columbia. it was super duper foggy so we basically saw nothing of what this beautiful city had to offer. here was our view for most of the day:

we met a lot of great people and again shout out to the most impressive husband and professional ever who again delivered a 2 hour workshop (without passing out) and giving it his all! another exciting thing happened yesterday-i finally got to try the famed ‘Nanaimo Bars!’ people had been raving about them and essentially they are little bars of goodness.  they are no bake, have kind of a wafer crumb bottom (ours had coconut in it), middle layer of icing and topped with chocolate. whoa. new favorite. if anyone from Canada has a great recipe, i’d love to give it a try!

newlywed tips nainaomo bars british columbiathen a nice woman volunteered to drive us from there to Victoria, BC so we could catch our flight this morning-thanks Debbie! our hotel was right next to this pub but it had a strange sign. you best believe i tried to enter the pub through the cupboard- Narnia anyone?

wife blog travel canada through the cupboardafter we had full bellies, we went back to the hotel and curled up in our hotel bed and flipped on the TV to find the Grammy’s. i don’t usually love award shows but the Grammys were a nice surprise and i looove music so it was entertaining to watch.

my very favorite part was at the end when Macklemore sang “Same Love” accompanied by Mary Lambert, Queen Latifah and Madonna and married 33 couples! some where interracial, some were same sex but all were in love and making a commitment for forever. i totally cried and it made me feel so happy that everyone’s love was being celebrated. check it out here:

my other favorites were as follows (because this is the first time i’ve been up to speed on pop culture events so allow me to indulge):

Kacey Musgraves singing “follow your arrow” (here’s the real video) because i love that she is singing about being true to you and following your own arrow

So make lots of noise
Kiss lots of boys
Or kiss lots of girls
If that’s something you’re into
When the straight and narrow
Gets a little too straight
Roll up a joint, or don’t
Just follow your arrow
Wherever it points, yeah
Follow your arrow
Wherever it points

Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons rocking it on stage. this instantly made me want to become a rock star. talk about a solid mash-up.

and then Pink being a total badass and performing some seriously amazing moves hundreds of feet in the air. i am going home and working on my core today because daaaang!

we got to the airport this morning (at 6:30am) and found out our flight back home had been canceled but thankfully we got on a later flight this afternoon (still waiting)!

i started getting cranky because i’m tired, trying not to get sick and haven’t worked out in 5 days so was looking forward to getting in early enough for a run…when my husband politely reminded me that i needed to have an attitude adjustment and be more pleasant to be around. i totally rolled my eyes at him for a full 4 seconds and gave him the stare down. then i realized he was absolutely right and even though i may be feeling irritated and cranky-i don’t get to take it out on him. i was in the wrong. i’m thankful for a patient, honest and kind husband to bear with me during these moments and that we strive to make communication a priority in our relationship-even when we get off track.

time to go check-in with the airlines again and make sure we are squared away to make it on the next flight! hope everyone is having an excellent Monday and thank you for all the birthday looooove!

the new wifestyle: creating a healthy communication pattern in your relationship means you are able to give/receive feedback without a full-blown fight or argument.

questions:
1) do you do award shows? favorite one?
2) if you could enter a different world…which one would it be? (mine would obviously be Harry Potter…duh)
3) how do you and your significant other give feedback when one of you is getting a little crazy?

Thanks for the honesty on the being cranky situation. It is a great lesson to hear how you and Ryan handle that situation. I’m going to tell my girlfriend this story and see how we can improve on our communication. God knows we’re both guilty of letting cranky get the best of us.

i’m glad i could help share a little insight into our way of working through some things! hope the conversation with your girlfriend goes well-it’s always much easier to have those discussions about future situations than when you are actually in the middle of it! thanks for always commenting and being an avid reader-much appreciated 🙂
