7 Father’s Day Gifts for Soon-To-Be-Dads

By  |  15 Comments

as mentioned in monday’s post about taking action around gun violence, here is the article i had planned! we are off to florida for a looong weekend to visit my in-laws and i am so excited!

in case you missed it, father’s day is fast approaching this coming sunday! now that i am married to an almost-baby-daddy, i thought i would put together some ideas for father’s day gifts for soon-to-be-dads! i realize this is a niche blog post but really you can give (most) of these gifts to any dad!

father's day gifts for soon to be dads

1) a couples’ massage

it is no secret that my favorite type of gift is one that i also benefit from so i am a big fan of this one. many places will offer a couples’ – simply be sure to tell them that one of you will be needing a prenatal massage!

2) a picture fame with an ultrasound picture in it!

then, once your little one is actually hanging out on the outside, you can replace it with a photo of the two of them!

3) concert tickets

apparently when you have a kid, your free time (and energy) flies out the window. this is a perfect gift to explore a favorite venue together – and chances are you get to participate too!

4) his own diaper bag filled with goodies

there are a ton of super cute diaper bags out there but many are on the side of a tad more feminine. this is a great one that either he could use or you could both share without all the flowers and designs (though he loves those, even better!) fill it with some basic baby essentials and shove a 6-pack of beer or a bottle of whiskey in there too!

5) the tile app (key finder)!

i have mentioned it before, but my husband is notorious for ‘misplacing’ his keys. i can only imagine how much worse this will be once we have a baby, especially when that baby becomes a toddler and thinks it is funny to hide things in the trash can. actually, i should probably get one for me too because it’s connected to your phone and can tell you exactly where your keys are!

6) one-handed bottle opener

because sometimes father’s day gifts are simply ‘bonus gifts.’ does anyone really need a one-handed bottle opener? probably not but i bet it’s super convenient when you are holding a baby with one hand to open that beer bottle!

7) a list of what will make him an incredible father

if you are pregnant and writing this in his father’s day card, be prepared to cry while writing it. i think it’s very powerful for you personally to think about and then write down all the reasons why you are excited to co-parent with him. i bet this card will be something he holds on to for quite a while!

what other ideas do you have for good father’s day gifts for an almost-dad or new dad?

Ohh! I love these ideas. Especially the nice Dad Diaper Bag. That is awesome.

And who am I kidding, a couple’s massage is a dream come true! Win-Win situation there, ha! I used to feel guilty wanting to give gifts where I could participate too (and I still do a little bit)…and so your statement validates my thoughts that it is totally okay, especially when it involves massages 🙂

I love all of these! Saving for when Pai becomes a father. . . hopefully NOT in the first year of marriage. (Living in the South means – get married young, get pregnant in the first year. I’m not knocking it, but don’t they know what causes babies?!) I’m trying to imagine how the one handed bottle opener is a spill-proof device. Somehow if I tried to open a bottle with one hand I would spill it everywhere. And the list sounds beautiful and definitely a tear-jerker!

nina! i cannot tell you how happy it makes me that you desire to waaaait a while to have a child after you’re married. my husband and i CONSTANTLY talk about how grateful we are to have had 9 years together to build up our strong foundation before introducing a little one to our family. stay strong! 🙂

hahaha oh you’re the best 🙂 you’re definitely getting one of them and since you’ve made it clear over the years you don’t really like ‘tangible’ gifts i bet you can guess which one 🙂 xo

Joe totally needs that key finder! I always have to tell him where his keys are. I’ve given up on hoping that he’ll put them where I’ve made a permanent spot for them so that he’ll always know where they are…

i think we may both end up getting the key finder – it has saved my friend multiple times with her toddler! oh i feel your pain amberly – we have a designated spot too and somehow it repels his keys!

Haha, I’m giggling at Mr. WS’s comment up there!

I love that one-handed bottle opener! I think K would like that! I also LOVE the diaper bag all for daddy! That’s a great idea- everything caters to moms but that’s a sure way for dad to parent in style!

Ah these are such great gifts for a dad-to-be, Chelsea! I’m definitely going to be checking out that diaper bag—I’ve been trying to keep baby accessories both of us will use pretty neutral so this would definitely fit right in! Also I love Ryan’s comment above–hilarious!!

Such a great list! I’d totally use it as a “holy crap, you’re going to be a dad” gift and give it to him at your shower. If Father’s Day doesn’t fall within your pregnancy.

excellent idea with the ‘holy crap you’re a dad gift’ if father’s day doesn’t happen during your pregnancy!
